This course covers concepts like disability, accessibility, and assistive technology in relation to the workplace.

By the end of this course, learners will be able to:

  • Define assistive technology (AT). 
  • Differentiate between types of AT devices. 
  • Explain the benefits of AT in the workplace. 
  • Identify how to acquire AT to assist in the workplace. 
  • Evaluate AT they may need to better perform job duties. 
  • Illustrate self-determination related to using AT in the workplace. 
  • Demonstrate self-advocacy and self-determination.

Who this course is for:

Pre-ETS participants – typically 14-21 years old individuals with disabilities within the scope of transition-related consultative and technical assistance (TA) services.  

  • A DRS client is defined by DRS as an individual who: 

  • is 14-21 years old;
  • has a documented disability as determined by the DRS;
  • is enrolled in an educational program, such as homeschool, high school, or post-secondary education;
  • has applied for and been determined eligible by the DRS; and
  • has an approved individualized plan for employment (IPE). 
  • A potentially-eligible student with a documented disability is defined by the DRS as an individual who: 

  • is 14-21 years old; and 
  • has an individualized education program (IEP); or
  • has a 504 Plan; or
  • has a documented disability, regardless of whether they have applied or have been determined eligible for the DRS; and
  • is enrolled in an educational program, such as homeschool, highschool, or post-secondary education.
